I was lucky enough to attend the tribute concert to his father Alla Rakha in february 2001 in Bombay. It was the first time I’d seen Zakir Hussain play live. I then attended a few other concerts in France, and each time was a spellbinding experience to see him play incredible rhythms with an ecstatic smile of joy. The last time was in Lyon on november 2022… Holy cow, what a maestro we lost.
